What we're all about
Recording in a studio environment can sometimes be a stressful and alien experience. Everyone has experienced a bit of “red light fever” once the record button has been pressed.

We always aim to provide a relaxed and enjoyable approach to recording, whilst striving to achieve the best results. The open-plan layout of the studio minimises the isolation of having musicians and engineers in separate rooms, without compromising quality. This is particularly beneficial for bands as everyone is able to work in a way that is closer to a regular rehearsal or gig situation.

We are able to cater for whatever method of recording you prefer, be it primarily live takes or a more overdub led approach. When recording we are able to offer discreet headphone mixes, ensuring that all musicians are hearing exactly the balance that they require. With our ProTools system we are able to perform seamless drop-ins at any point within a song for any combination of instruments. It‘s also very easy to compile and edit separate takes of performances as required.

Mixing
No two acts want to sound the same. We always like to work closely with the bands and artists to help them achieve the sound that they desire. Our combination of powerful equipment and experienced engineers can take your recordings to the next level.
The facilities that our ProTools system offers provide a selection of tools, which are usually only available in studios many times the price. Alongside plug-ins ranging from amazing convolving reverbs and vintage-style compressors is our ability to have total recall and automation of all mix settings.

The automation enables the mix to be as dynamic and creative as you want. Any fader move or effect parameter can be controlled and automated to make even the most subtle changes possible. Total recall lets you instantly return to a mix at any point and it will be exactly as you left it. Perfect if you want to return to fine tune a mix at a later date. Our lovely tape machine can be used to add some extra analogue character at this stage too. Mmm... warm, smooth, creamy with extra sizzle and bite etc ;-)

Mastering
Are you fed up with your recordings not sounding as punchy as the albums that you buy? Mastering is the final stage of the recording process where the final mix is processed and is crucial in giving your mix that additional edge and a professional finish. We are able to master your mix as part of the studio session, or you may prefer to return at a later date, so you can work with “fresh ears”.

The studio is also available to mix and master material brought in from other studios. Please call to discuss your requirements.

How long does it take??
We get asked this A LOT. It's a similar question to "How long is a piece of String". There is no definitive answer. When bands are more experienced with working in the studio environment they have a better idea of how long each process takes to complete and how much time they want to put into their recordings. Everyone's different.

As a ROUGH guide, for demoing purposes a band of say 3-6 members, playing mostly live with some over dubs and retracking vocals seperate from the band, should allow a day for 2 songs or there abouts. So a 4 track EP should probably take 2 days to complete, including a simple mix.

For more in-depth production of an album for instance: 1 Song per day is good starting point, that way enough time can be put into achieving the correct sounds for each song and creating the right performances. More time may be required after the bulk of the session to make sure the mix is exactly as desired, so allow for this.

At the other end of the time scale... if a band is very well prepared and has a stripped-down live sound, they could quite easily record as many tracks as they could play correctly in one day.

Also don't forget to allow time at the end of your session to mix & burn off CDs!

This is a very rough idea, and should be used only if you don't have much experience with working in a studio.

Location Recording
We are also able to offer an excellent location recording service. Contact the studio to discuss your requirements.
