Good Luck! 11th May 2006 Crone sign to Broekn Rule Records Norfolk based punk band, Crone, are to sign a deal with Broekn Rule Records of Norwich. The band were picked up when Broekn Rule owner Mike Deal (appropriate name) heard Crone's (Mill Recorded) album, "Fair Ter Middlin'". Keep a check on their website HERE for more info! Congrats guys! 22nd April 2006 New Mobile Protools System and Ribbon Microphone Acquired We've just received and installed a 12" Apple Powerbook, with accompanying Digidesign Digi002 Rack and Protools LE7. This forms our new mobile recording setup, and should get it's first run out on the 13th recording the Bigger Sky Choir and Norwich Cathedral. It's completely cross compatible with all other protools systems including our studio based HD system so anything recorded outside of the Mill is very quickly returnable, editiable, and mixable at the Mill. We also just received an Oktava ML-52-02, which sounds ace, in a really warm, old way. 15th April 2006 Analogue Master Recorder Installed We recently installed a Sony APR-5000 Master Recording Machine. It uses 1/4" analogue tape, and records a big fat sounding master of a mix. It can be used to mix down to, or if you're daring enough you could record direct to stereo, for the ultimate in realistic live recording! We also bought an pair of API 512 Microphone Preamplifiers, which are fitted into a 6 channel Lunchbox. And well.... they sound absolutely incredible!!!! This combined with all the new Protools HD gear offers a level of fidelty beyond all of the competition. 26th March 2006 Sargasso Trio EP Released 27th March 2006 That's right the Sargasso Trio EP is out, it's available from shops on 12" Vinyl. If you haven't already then request our friendship and keep us up to date on what you're doing. 12th March 2006 HD expansion Since installation of the ProTools HD system we've been continually adding plugins and building up a really complete system. With the most recent additions of Antares Auto Tune Production Suite, and Line 6 Echo Farm, and the amazing Audio Ease Altiverb. 2nd Febuary 2006 Conway managed to get on Radio Broadland!!! Norwich based Rock 'n' Roll band Conway have just had the track "Supergrover" played, and have been interviewed by the one and only Radio Broadland!!! They have also recently teamed up with Hitchin based Ugli Management So that should prove interesting!!! WOOOOOOOOOO 27th January 2006 HD has landed!!! The most up to datest, the bestest, and greatest! Digidesign Protools HD (High Definition) has been installed at the Mill. Please feel free to call or email us for our competitive prices and unique music production and recording services. 20th January 2006 Mill Re-arrangement It's that time of year when most people do the regular spring cleaning right? So we decided to start the new year off with a slight re-ordering of the mill's layout. You notice from these pictures of the mill, Old and New that we've bascially spun the studio around 180 degrees. This has a had an affect on the sound which we think you'll agree is pretty impressive. The monitoring is far more even now, and so is the overall tonality of the room, enjoy! 16th January 2006 Grasscutter winner Grasscutter highscore has been set for the year 2005! Darrell friend of "Six Degrees of Seperation" has been crowned winner. We now have faders that go up and down by themselves courtesy of a new Digidesign ProControl. Dave can do magic tricks with them. 11th November 2005 Sunshine Variety Club Played on Radio 6 The track "Bone Idle Pop Idol" was played by Gideon Coe at 12.45 today. The single of the track is due to be release on the 16th of January 2006. Keep a check on there site here for all the news as it happens! 14th October 2005 Sunshine Variety Club Get Single Release Sunshine Variety club have signed a single distribution deal with Whimsical Records. The single will contain the tracks "Bone Idle Pop Idol" and "Girl With the Crooked Smile" both of which were recorded at The Mill. Keep an eye on their website for news of a release date and availability. We wish them the best of luck with their release and look forward to seeing them again early next year. 24th September 2005 Neutrinos Continue Work on Next Album The Neutrinos are back in the mill this week to continue tracking for the upcoming second album. Check out their website for some "rough" demos they recorded of the new material not so long ago, thats what an album in a day by this band sounds like! 21st September 2005 Catherine Feeny track available on iTunes Catherine Feeny track "Mr. Blue" has been featured on a compilation called "In The City" which is available now on the iTunes Music Store. Go now and check out the preview or buy online. 20th September 2005 Catherine Feeny signs to Warner Chappell, Gwyneth Paltrow is impressed... LA born singer-songwriter Catherine signed with Warner Chappell publishing last week. Catherine has been working with producer Sebastian Rogers in The Mill for over a year on her album, with mixing and engineering from Jonny Cole and Dave Pye. We are anticipating news on recording contracts soon. One track from her album "Mr Blue" has already found it's way onto the soundtrack for Gwyneth Paltrow's upcoming movie, Running with Scissors due out in 2006. Catherine is playing at the Norwich Arts centre on September 28th and In The City in Manchester on October 2nd. 16th August 2005 Cord Single Release Date The Cord single "Go Either Way", which contains the B-Side "As Far As We Can Go" recorded at The Mill, is due to be released on October 31st! Go buy it!! 10th August 2005 The Sargasso Trio Single The Sargasso Trio decend upon the Mill to record vocals for the single "The Saxlingham One" due for release this October through Tummy Touch Records. 30th July 2005 Major Lack of News There hasn't been any news for 8 months so here's some. Cord return to the mill to record B-Sides to complement their forthcoming single releases. And eeerrrrr... We got DVD in the caravan! And Grasscutter!! Jan 13th 2005 Freaks of the month The latest 12" by Def Tex, "FREAKS" received single of the month in DJ Magazine. This Mill recorded track is available on Son Records. HAL B-side The second single by dublin-based HAL features a b-side recorded at The Mill. What a lovely dance, backed with Worry about the wind (original demo) is released by Rough Trade on 24th January. The Mill's crack production team, CRiB was heavily involved with pre-production on the record throughout the last 18 months. More on CRiB coming soon... Aug 3rd 2004 Full on summer at The Mill The studio is having one of it's busiest ever summers with an eclectic range of great acts coming through. Aug 3rd 2004 New Gear We've just started using our new channel strip. It's a Focusrite ISA430 mkII and sounds completely amazing, especially on vocals and guitars. For full gear info go to our STUDIO page May.4th 2004 Cord sign to Island Records Many congratulation to Cord for signing a 5 album international deal with Island records, home of U2, Bob Marley, Keen ..... We believe that this is the first Norwich based band to sign such a major deal. The Mill has been working closly with the band for 3 years with the aim of getting to this point. To have got the deal is proof that a band with such talent and ambition combined with the right support and understanding can make such achievements possible. May.4th 2004 New monitoring installed The Mill has just installed a new Genelec active monitoring system. It features active main monitors and active sub unit and sounds FAT! For more details on The Mill's equipment specs go to STUDIO Feb.1st 2004 Fiona Renshaw album release date announced Fiona's debut album "Love in a bubble" is set for nationwide release on February 16th through Laws of Motion records. The album was recorded, produced and mixed at The Mill and we're very proud of it. As a taster the title track is featured on HMV's Playlist CD in February so go and check it out! There is also an album launch gig at The Jazz Cafe, Camden on 3rd Feb. Call box office for details. Feb.1st 2004 Cord in A&R frenzy Norwich 4-piece Cord are currently under intense record label and management scrutiny after appearing on Radio 6. Recordings played as part of the feature were of course made at The Mill. Feb.1st 2004 HAL secure deals and play with The Thrills at Brixton Academy... not bad! After recording 3 songs at The Mill last year HAL have gone on to secure publishing with Heavenly and a record deal with Rough Trade. To top that they are supporting fellow Dubliners, The Thrills at Brixton Academy on 5th Feb. New Mill Web Site You're looking at it! Still a few bits to do but it's looking pretty cool. Massive thanks to James for his web guru skills. Fiona Renshaw mini album goes BIG Fiona has been recording her debut album at The Mill with Jonny Cole producing for over a year now. Originally intended as a mini 8 track release it is now expanding to 11 due to massive demand for more material. Still scheduled for Jan 2004 release "Love in a Bubble" has already received four star reviews in Q and MOJO magazines along with mentions for "richly textured production" from Jonny. Full reviews coming soon. Fi plays The 12 Bar in London Dec 2nd. HAL on tour in UK– deals imminent!! In May Dublin based band HAL recorded three awesome tracks at the Mill and set a record as the first band to fly to the studio (well Stanstead anyway). They have now just completed a five-date tour with Starsailor, (which I managed to miss –booooo!) and are fending off several labels and publishers with a big stick. They have also been included on the NME's Hot List for 2004. Hear one of the tracks they recorded (in glorious mono) by clicking the following link... HAL on NME.COM Hal will be touring with Grandaddy in December. You can catch them at Norwich Waterfront on the 8th. The Asleep on Acupuncture compilation. The Asleep have secured one of their Mill produced tracks on the forthcoming Acupuncture compilation. Due for release Jan 2004 “Tell your girl” will be featured alongside songs by an incredible selection of bands including The Stooges, The Ramones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Blondie! The Asleep also play Norwich Arts Centre with The Neutrinos on Dec 5th. Def Tex keep it real Classic UK Hip hop band Def Tex are currently working on studio tracks for release through Son Records. Cord in London Mill regulars Cord are continuing to blow away London crowds with their passionate live performances as well as working hard on new tracks in the studio. Tunde tracks Ex-Lighthouse Family singer Tunde Baiyewu has been visiting The Mill on and off for over a year now, working on pre-production for his debut solo album.
